She is the most popular woman in Prussian history, Queen Louise (1776-1810). On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of her death, 3 exhibitions in Berlin are being run, one on the beautiful Pfaueninsel-Island.
Artist Michael Lukas has created a piece of modern art called “mobile monuments”, compiled of models of the Mausoleum & the Palm House all placed inside an airfreight container. Jettainer has supported the exhibition by donating the container for the duration of the show.
The Pfaueninsel gardens are a global mix of style: Influences from Italy, England, Holland, Switzerland but also India and Tahiti are all mixed together leading to different feelings of the visitor when walking through the diverse regions. Parallel to the gardening, also the buildings on the island were assembled from components imported from all over the world. Artist Lukas underlined the idea of early “global sourcing” by displaying the art paired with an item used for logistics in today’s life.
If you are visiting Berlin, you might want to take a view. And if it’s not the artwork, then certainly the beautiful Pfaueninsel is worth the visit. More at www.spsg.de/louise2010
