RAUNHEIM, GERMANY, 12 December 2006 - XL Airways, a leading charter operator in the UK and part of the XL Leisure Group, has signed a 5-year contract with Jettainer to provide outsourced Unit Load Device (ULD) management services.
Jettainer will provide comprehensive day-to-day ULD management services including tracking & tracing, active inventory management and monitoring, as well as control of ULD repairs, positioning services and management reporting. As part of the agreement, Jettainer has purchased the carrier’s entire fleet of ULDs which was previously owned and managed by Avion Group carrier Air Atlanta Icelandic.
Jettainer’s services are expected to significantly increase the transparency and performance of XL Airways’ ULD operations through focused management services and dedicated technologies. Jettainer, a joint venture of international airfreight carrier Lufthansa Cargo AG (LCAG) and mobile asset management specialist TrenStar Inc., offers one-stop ULD management services that enable airlines to reduce costs and improve operational performance by outsourcing their ULDs into the expert hands and global pool of a specialist ULD management company.
“I am delighted to announce the selection of Jettainer as our partner for ULD management. Outsourcing our ULD affairs to Jettainer allows us to focus our resources on building our competitive strengths and successfully growing XL Airways while gaining a maximum of flexibility and transparency,” said Dave Mills, Operations Director, XL Airways. “The entire Jettainer team has been very responsive to our needs and we are looking forward to reaping the benefits of professional ULD management together with them.”
Jettainer said this deal helps to solidify its customer base on its way to a neutral global industry pool of ULDs designed to enable shared operational efficiencies and cost savings through greatly reduced capital requirements and lower, more predictable fixed operating expenses. "We are proud to welcome XL Airways into the growing family of Jettainer customers. XL’s endorsement of our ULD management approach, which is based on the use of both technology and personalised service, is an important step for Jettainer into the UK market,” said Jettainer managing director Dr. Mohammed Ali Seiraffi. “To work with XL Airways has been a most rewarding experience because of the people and the commitment to business excellence behind this company.”
